Soft & Fluffy Homemade Yeast Rolls
I gotta say guys, I'm really proud of this recipe. It's delicious. It does take some time in the rising/proving department, but so worth it.
Ingredients
4 2/3 c. All-Purpose Flour
1/3 & 2 tsp. White Sugar
1/4 c. Shortening
2 tsp. Salt
2 c. Warm Milk
3 TBSP Melted Butter
2 TBSP Yeast
1/2 c. Warm Water
1 Egg
3 TBSP Vegetable Oil
Directions
1.) In a small bowl, microwave water for 20-30 seconds. When the water is warm, but not hot, add in 2 tsp. of sugar and yeast. Stir. Let sit for 5 minutes until yeast become frothy.
2.) In your large mixing bowl, combine sugar, shortening, salt and 2 cups of flour.
3.) When yeast mixture is ready, add to the flour mixture. Add in egg. Heat milk for 1-2 minutes in microwave and add to the flour mixture. Stir to combine and let rest for 5 minutes.
4.) Slowly add in remaining flour one cup at a time. Once all of the flour is combined, knead the dough for an additional 5-6 minutes.
5.) Pull the dough away from the sides of the bowl and oil the dough on all sides. Cover with a tea towel and let rise for 50-60 minutes.
6.) Punch dough down. Grease your pans. Divide dough into even portions (Should make about 24 rolls) and put them in the pans. Cover again with the tea towel and leave to rise for 35 minutes more.
7.) Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bake rolls uncovered for 15-18 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the center rolls are lightly browned on the top.
8.) Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter. Sprinkle a pinch of sugar on top of the rolls.
ENJOY!
